The Avengers is the best Marvel movie ever, a 1960s full-color comic book brought to marvelous life. Writer/director Joss Whedon, a longtime Marvel fan and former writer on the X-Men comics, embraces the preposterous and silly fun of the source material and runs with it. Verisimilitude be damned!

The movie gets a bit talky in the middle, but never dull. Whedon does a very nice job juggling the huge ensemble of characters, and Mark Ruffalo steals the show as the best Hulk ever.
